The ITEP Internship Program is offered exclusively to Port Academy students. The Global Safety & Security Academy (GSS), with the help of the Los Angeles Port, partners students with employers involved in the Safety and Security Business and International Trade Business through a summer internship program. Prospective GSS interns must meet the following criteria before their junior year to be eligible participants:

  •  must  have a minimum 2.50 GPA
  •  take the TABE test during the fall semester
  •  maintain excellent attendance (95% +)
  •  establish excellent citizenship skills (no U’s)
  •  attend resume and personal statement workshops & analysis
  •  present a resume
  •  complete internship application
  •  complete personal statement
  •  submit a minimum of 2 letters of recommendation
  •  present transcripts
  •  participate in 2-5  interviews

All tools made available to the prospective interns, including workshops are intended to equip students with the valuable tools necessary to become successful in the work place. Such tools will be useful to them in every day life experiences as well. The Interns part-time and full-time job experience begins in July and ends in August. Often this Internship opportunity allows our students the ability to land a job with the Port of Los Angeles and affiliated companies once they have graduated high school.
